Neaves named 2013 AFIS distinguished senior

Ms. Brittany Neaves has been named the 2013 Distinguished Senior for EKU's Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems.  She was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the annual College of Business and Technology College to Careers senior recognition luncheon.

The student is selected based on superior academic achievement, excellent leadership, citizenship, character and services to EKU.

Neaves, an accounting major from Mt. Sterling, Ky., plans to graduate this spring and continue her education in the University of Kentucky Masters of Accountancy program.

She has served as a student vice president for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for the past year and is a one of the selected few student members from across the country to serve on the Council of Students for Phi Kappa Phi at the National level.

Among her other accolades is Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for First-Year Students and the President's Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Eastern Kentucky University, an accomplishment that she had continued since 2009.  

In 2012, she received the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants, Gordon Ford Memorial Scholarship and was inducted into the International Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma in which she has held several offices. Neaves is also a member of Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Since her junior year, Brittney has worked 25 hours per week for the accounting firm of Dean Dorton Allen Ford while maintaining her 4.0 GPA.  She has been accepted to the Masters program in Accounting at the University of Kentucky. 

Phi Kappa Phi selected her as their Chapter Fellowship winner. As such, Brittney will serve as EKU’s nominee for the national Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship where she will compete for a national fellowship in the amount of up to $15,000. Accounting, Finance and Information Systems.

At the luncheon, the college honored distinguished seniors and distinguished alumni from each of the academic departments within the College of Business and Technology. Mr. Duran Hall was selected as the AFIS departmental distinguished alum. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2012-13 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
