MBA Students Visit Okonite's Richmond Facility

Dr. Isaacs' class visits the Richmond Oconite facility

Dr. Trish Isaacs and her ACC 850 class had a unique experience at the Okonite Company. She and her MBA students participated in a tour of the Richmond plant.

The Okonite Company is a large, privately owned company that produces electrical cables.  They have a number of plants, warehouses, and sales centers throughout the country; one of their manufacturing plants is located in Richmond.  During the tour, Okonite’s manufacturing process was described, and as well as its purchasing and distribution processes.

Following the tour, the class had a question and answer session with the plant accounting manager, M. Renee Todd, where many course topics were discussed. Course topics include costing, budgeting, forecasting, planning, and control. The focus of the course is on using accounting information for managerial decision making.
