EKU Accounting Students Attend IMA Leadership Conference
In November 2014 two EKU accounting majors, Leigh Compton and Melia Kemper, along with faculty members, Dr. Leslee Higgins and Dr. Trish Isaacs, attended the Institute of Management Accountants 15th Annual Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, In.
The conference was a very valuable and FUN experience!! The conference began with a tour of Eli Lilly, a large pharmaceutical manufacturer where we had the opportunity to learn about corporate operations. There were several educational sessions. The ones most appealing to us were how to build/improve your resume, using LinkedIn, networking, and taking the CMA exam. We were also able to tour the Dallara Indy Car Factory. Though most of their manufacturing happens in Italy, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the specialized processes that happen here in the U.S.
Not only was this trip a valuable learning experience, but we also had the chance to network with hundreds of other accounting students and many professionals working in industry. Some large manufactures, like Caterpillar, even held onsite interviews. Our trip would not have been possible without the annual scholarship received from the Lincoln Trail Region of the IMA, as well as funds provided by Dr. Feltus and the EKU Accounting Department. The next conference will be in November 2015 held in Orlando, Fl. If you are interested in learning more about industry or working in industry, this conference is a great opportunity that can open doors.
