Accounting 'Meet the Firms', Sept. 20, 2017
On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, EKU Accounting held its annual 'Meet the Firms' night. Regional firms seeking interns, co-ops, and full-time positions were on hand to network with EKU's very best accounting students. Nearly 50 seniors and juniors were prepared to interact in this professional setting.
For the first time this year, a panel of five accounting and finance professionals directly interacted with students. Held just prior to the networking event, the discussion panel gave students immediate access to industry professionals who related trends in their area of expertise and answered questions from the audience. According to Dr. Mary Beth Holbrook who helped organize the event, "Each discussant provided great perspective to students about the benefits of internships, the qualities employers seek when hiring, and about the skills needed to succeed long-term in the accounting profession. I think students came away feeling inspired and with a better understanding of what they need to do now in preparation of successful careers after graduation."
Regional firm representatives, many who are EKU alumni, then staffed the networking event - which is often the very first professional interaction for students. The annual networking event was started in 2007 with nine organizations attending. It has grown over the years to more than a dozen firms actively recruiting for open positions
